The rules don’t accept a replaced background: switch off Plain background on the card to keep your own.
1
Facing the camera with a neutral expression, eyes open and mouth closed, in even light.
2
The card frames the photo to 35 × 45 mm with the face 32 to 36 mm tall. Pick the German or French visa if that's your consulate.
3
Tap Save photo and print it at its real size on photo paper.
The EU's visa handbook says the photo must meet the ICAO standard for travel document photos, and a photo that doesn't can be refused. In practice that means 35 × 45 mm, the face 32 to 36 mm from the chin to the top of the head, not counting hair, a plain white or light background without shadows, and a photo usually taken in the last six months.
You need only one photo, and many consulates and visa centres now take it themselves when they take your fingerprints. Check your appointment details before you print anything.
German missions don't accept an edited background, so for a German visa switch off Plain background and keep your own wall. The card makes the photo in your browser; we can't promise the consulate will accept it.
