Fixing a Sideways Video

A video filmed with the phone held the wrong way plays sideways everywhere you share it. The rotator turns it a quarter turn at a time: Rotate Right turns it 90° clockwise, Rotate Left 90° counter-clockwise, and two clicks give you 180°.

The preview shows the result before you export, and you can also flip the picture horizontally or vertically, which is handy for mirrored selfie footage. Save the rotated video as MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM.

Rotation happens on your own device with WebCodecs, falling back to ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly when the browser cannot handle the file, so the video is never uploaded.

Rotate Video 90 Degrees: FAQ

01

Which way does the video turn?

Rotate Right turns it 90° clockwise and Rotate Left 90° counter-clockwise. The readout shows the total rotation (0°, 90°, 180° or 270°), and Reset puts it back to 0°.

02

Can I rotate a video 180 degrees?

Yes. Click Rotate Right (or Rotate Left) twice. You can also flip the picture horizontally or vertically on top of the rotation.

03

Does rotating reduce the quality?

A flip always re-encodes the frames. A plain rotation can often be saved as the file's orientation setting instead, which leaves the picture untouched; when the file or output format does not allow that, the video is re-encoded.

04

Can I rotate several videos at once?

No. The rotator handles one video at a time; add the next one after you have downloaded the first.

05

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The rotation runs in your browser and the video stays on your device. There is no account and no watermark.
