Will trimming reduce the quality of my video?

The kept part may be re-encoded rather than copied bit for bit: a part that starts at the very beginning of a video in a format that holds its codecs can be copied as it is (an AVI's video is always re-encoded). A re-encode with your browser's own video encoder is hard to see on everyday clips. Where your browser cannot encode the video itself, FFmpeg encodes it in software (H.264, or VP8 for WebM) at a standard quality setting in 8-bit color, which can lose some detail on very high-bitrate or 10-bit HDR footage.

What video formats can I cut?

You can cut and trim MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM videos, and other common formats your browser can play. The AI assistant also cuts AVI and FLV files, which browsers cannot play.

Can I cut multiple segments from the same video?

Yes. Ask the assistant for each range you want, or to cut a section out of the middle. To divide the whole video into parts, use our free Video Splitter.

Is there a maximum video length I can trim?

Since processing happens on your own computer, the length is mostly limited by your device's memory and performance. We've successfully trimmed videos over an hour long!

How do I remove the beginning and end of a video?

Tell the assistant the start and end times, for example “keep 1:05 to 2:30”. Everything outside that range is removed. In the classic cutter, drag the start and end handles on the timeline instead.

Can I cut videos for Instagram or TikTok?
