How to crop an image

1

1

Drop the photo

Drop a JPEG, PNG or WEBP above. The assistant opens with it attached.

2

2

Tap a shape

Square, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9 and 3:2 are drawn on your picture. Say which part to keep if the centre is not right.

3

3

Download the cropped photo

The cropped copy appears with a download button. Your original keeps its full frame.

Crop for the place the photo is going

Each platform has its shape: square for a profile picture, 4:5 for an Instagram post, 9:16 for a story or a phone wallpaper, 16:9 for a slide or a video thumbnail. Instead of dragging a box by eye, the assistant shows your own photo cut to each shape, side by side, and you tap the one that keeps what matters.

When the subject is not in the middle, say so: “keep the top” or “keep the left side” moves the crop. For an exact rectangle, give the pixel size, and the crop is made to those numbers.

What you can do

  • Square, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9 and 3:2, previewed on your photo
  • 5:4 on request
  • Choose which part stays: top, bottom, left, right or centre
  • Exact pixel crops
  • Keep the format, or save as JPEG, PNG or WEBP

Crop Image Online: FAQ

01

Can I crop a photo into a circle?

No. The crops are rectangles. A square crop is what most profile pictures use; the app or site then shows it as a circle.

02

Does cropping lower the quality?

Cropping keeps the pixels you choose at their full sharpness; it only removes the rest.

03

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The crop is made in your browser and the photo stays on your device.
