From the government pages linked below, checked on October 14, 2026. Rules change, so check the official page before you apply.
The rules accept only an unedited photo, so this tool isn’t the right way to make it.
1
Have your official application photo taken in person by a commercial photographer or photo studio. Ask for the printed-photo or online-renewal specifications that apply to your application.
2
Drop a photo to open the country's printed-photo preset. You can zoom, move and rotate the preview. The card offers every edit; check the official rules before deciding what to save.
3
The editor saves one JPEG in your browser. It does not provide physical prints, photographer certification or an acceptance guarantee. Keep your original file and follow the application channel's official instructions.
Canadian passport photos for applications in person or by mail measure 50 × 70 mm. The head height, measured from chin to crown, must be between 31 and 36 mm. The photo must be taken in person by a commercial photographer or photo studio, with a neutral expression, even lighting and a plain white or light-coloured background.
Canada requires an unedited photo. Its guidance treats changes to brightness, contrast, sharpness, facial features, clothing and background as alterations, and also names cropping around the head and shoulders. Keeping the original background does not make an edited file unaltered. The editor's size preview is not photographer certification or a compliant substitute for the original.
Online renewal uses separate digital rules: portrait orientation with a 2:3 width-to-height ratio, at least 1200 × 1800 pixels and at most 3000 × 4500 pixels, and a JPEG between 200 KB and 5 MB. The commercial photographer requirement still applies. The 50 × 70 mm printed preset is not a digital-renewal preset; follow the official instructions with your photographer.
