The Polizia di Stato asks for one recent photo, taken from the front on a white background, that meets the ICAO standard: 35 × 45 mm, with the face covering 70 to 80% of the photo. It should be in colour, at most six months old, with a neutral expression, closed lips and open eyes, no flash reflections or red eyes, and printed on high-quality paper. The same rules apply to the electronic ID card (CIE).
Glasses must have clear lenses, no heavy frames and no reflections; a head covering is allowed only for religious reasons, with the face visible from chin to forehead.
Italian embassies ask visa applicants for a 35 × 45 mm colour photo on white, and scanned or photocopied photos aren't accepted. The card makes the photo in your browser; we can't promise acceptance.
