The rules don’t accept a replaced background: switch off Plain background on the card to keep your own.
Where no head height is given, the card sizes the head to the international standard: 70–80% of the photo’s height.

The visa application form's photo box is 45 mm high and 35 mm wide, the same as a passport photo. The embassy rules we checked ask for a photo taken within six months, the face straight with hair not covering it, no hat or cap and no glare on glasses, from the upper chest to the top of the head with some space above. A computer image pasted onto the form isn't accepted, so print the photo and attach the print.
Japanese passport photos follow the Foreign Ministry's own rule: the face 34 mm, give or take 2 mm, from the top of the head to the chin, on a plain background without shadows or patterns. The ministry rejects retouched photos and image processing such as masking, so switch off Plain background and keep your real background.
The photo is framed in your browser. We can't promise an embassy or passport office will accept it.
