How to compress a scan or photo to 200 KB

1

1

Drop the scan or photo

A scanned page or a phone photo of a document, as JPEG, PNG or WEBP.

2

2

Crop if needed, then send

Add “crop it to the page” to the request if there's desk around the document. The size limit is already filled in.

3

3

Check the text and download

Open the copy to check the small print is readable, then download it.

Readable documents under 200 KB

For a scanned document, readable text matters more than full resolution. A page around 1,600 pixels on its long side usually stays legible at 200 KB, while a full-size phone photo of the same page would need a quality so low that small print smears.

Crop the desk and shadows away first; the assistant can crop the image to the page before compressing it. Then it steps the quality down from high to low and keeps the first result under 200 KB, or tells you the smallest size it reached. Everything runs in your browser.

What you can do

  • Scans and photos to under 200 KB
  • Crop to the document first
  • A smaller pixel size on request, which keeps text clearer than a very low quality
  • The final size shown with the result

Compress Image to 200 KB: FAQ

01

Why is my document photo so large?

Phone cameras save every picture at full resolution, often several megabytes, which is far more detail than a form needs.

02

Can I compress several pages?

Yes, one page at a time, because a size limit applies to one image.

03

Does the copy keep the photo's details?

No. Camera details and location stored in the original are left out of the compressed copy.

04

Is my document uploaded?

No. It's compressed in your browser and stays on your device.
