How to Convert WebM to M4A Online

1

1

Drop your WebM file

Drag and drop your .webm file onto the box above, or click Choose Files. The request is already filled in: “Convert this to M4A”.

2

2

Say how, if you want

The AI assistant uses sensible defaults. To choose the bitrate, codec or sample rate yourself, say so in the request, for example “Convert this to M4A at 320 kbps”.

3

3

Save your M4A file

The assistant opens with your file and converts it on your own device; the file itself is never uploaded. When the M4A file is ready, click Save. Prefer to set everything by hand, or batch-convert several files into a ZIP? The classic converter is one click away on this page.

Why Convert WebM to M4A?

WebM files from browser screen recorders, web meetings and video downloaders carry Opus or Vorbis audio, and Apple's Music app and GarageBand will not import them. Converting WebM to M4A re-encodes that audio to AAC, the codec Apple devices are built around, so the result syncs to iPhone and drops into any Mac audio app.

By default the AAC bitrate follows the WebM's own audio quality (in the classic converter, the bitrate slider sets it relative to the WebM's bitrate). Opus is more efficient than AAC, especially for speech at low bitrates, so keep at least the source's bitrate for a low-bitrate recording rather than shrinking it further.

  • Private by design: your WebM file is converted on your own device and never uploaded.
  • M4A already asked for: the AI assistant's request says M4A, so one drop does it. Want a particular bitrate, codec or sample rate? Just say so.
  • Batch friendly: the classic converter on this page takes several WebM files in one go and downloads them as a ZIP.
  • Free, no watermark: no sign-up, and nothing stamped on the output.

WebM vs M4A

WebM (WebM): WebM is the open, royalty-free container built for the web. It pairs VP8, VP9 or AV1 video with Opus or Vorbis audio and streams natively in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and HTML5 players. It is best for HTML5 video, websites and open-source projects.

M4A (MPEG-4 Audio): M4A is audio-only MP4, normally holding AAC (or lossless ALAC). It is the native format of iTunes, Apple Music and iPhone Voice Memos and sounds better than MP3 at the same bitrate. It is best for Apple devices, iTunes and voice memos.

In short: keep WebM when the priority is HTML5 video, websites and open-source projects, and switch to M4A when the file is headed for Apple devices, iTunes and voice memos. Need a different target? The full Video Converter supports every format listed below.

WebM to M4A FAQ

01

Why convert WebM to M4A instead of MP3?

MP3 plays on more non-Apple hardware, but M4A is the better fit for Apple Music, GarageBand and iPhone, and AAC sounds better than MP3 at the same bitrate.

02

Can I make the M4A lossless?

Choose the ALAC codec for an Apple Lossless M4A. That stops any further loss from this point on, but the Opus or Vorbis source was already lossy, so the file grows much larger without sounding better.

03

Is this WebM to M4A converter free?

Yes. Converting WebM to M4A on MediaConverter.io is free, with no watermark and no sign-up. The AI assistant runs on a free daily allowance of assistant credits; the classic converter on this page has no daily limit at all.

04

Are my WebM files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so your .webm file is read and converted on your own device and never uploaded, which keeps private recordings private and means there is no waiting in an upload queue. The AI assistant only sees what you type and basic facts about the file: its name, format, duration and size.

05

Is there a file size limit for WebM to M4A?

There is no plan or account limit, but the converter loads the whole WebM file into your browser's memory, so about 2 GB per file is the practical ceiling; larger files may fail to open. Long or high-resolution files also take longer, especially on phones.

06

Can I choose the M4A settings myself?

Yes. Ask the AI assistant for a bitrate, codec or sample rate in your request. Audio track selection and every other setting are in the classic converter, one click away on this page.

07

Will converting WebM to M4A reduce quality?

M4A is a lossy format, so the WebM audio is decoded and re-encoded. Keep the bitrate at 100% (or pick 256 to 320 kbps) and the difference is inaudible for almost all listeners.

08

Which browsers support the WebM to M4A converter?

It is built and tested on current desktop Chrome and Edge. The conversion itself runs in WebAssembly, which every current desktop browser supports, so speed depends mostly on your computer's processor.
