Convert
1
Drag and drop your .mp3 file onto the page or click to browse. You can select several MP3 files at once to batch-convert them.
2
The output format is already set to FLAC, so you can convert immediately. If you need to, adjust the audio codec, bitrate or sample rate in the settings panel first.
3
Click Convert. The FLAC file is processed on your own device; nothing is uploaded to a server. When it finishes, click Download to save it (or Download all to get a batch as a ZIP).
Converting MP3 to FLAC does not recover the detail the MP3 encoder discarded, but it does freeze the audio in a lossless container so future edits, conversions and library tools never degrade it again. It also lets FLAC-only players and archives accept the file.
The FLAC will be larger than the MP3, typically five to eight times, and the converter preserves your tags. Use it for archiving, not for improving sound.
MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer III): MP3 is the universal lossy audio format. It plays on every device made in the last twenty-five years and offers small files with good quality at 192 to 320 kbps. It is best for music players, podcasts, phones and sharing.
FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec): FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) compresses audio to roughly half the size of WAV without discarding a single bit, so it decodes back to the identical original. It is best for lossless music libraries and audiophile listening.
In short: keep MP3 when the priority is music players, podcasts, phones and sharing, and switch to FLAC when the file is headed for lossless music libraries and audiophile listening. Need a different target? The full Audio Converter supports every format listed below.
