1
Drag and drop your .flac file onto the page or click to browse. You can select several FLAC files at once to batch-convert them.
2
The output format is already set to WAV, so you can convert immediately. If you need to, adjust the audio codec, bitrate or sample rate in the settings panel first.
3
Click Convert. The WAV file is processed on your own device; nothing is uploaded to a server. When it finishes, click Download to save it (or Download all to get a batch as a ZIP).
Some audio software, CD-burning tools, samplers and older hardware recorders only accept WAV. Converting FLAC to WAV decodes the lossless stream back into uncompressed PCM, giving you the exact original recording in the format those tools expect.
Because FLAC is lossless, the WAV is identical to the audio the FLAC was made from. The only cost is file size, which roughly doubles.
FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec): FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) compresses audio to roughly half the size of WAV without discarding a single bit, so it decodes back to the identical original. It is best for lossless music libraries and audiophile listening.
WAV (Waveform Audio File Format): WAV stores uncompressed PCM audio exactly as it was recorded. It is the standard for audio editing, mastering and archiving, at the cost of large files (about 10 MB per minute of CD-quality stereo). It is best for editing, mastering, DAWs and archiving.
In short: keep FLAC when the priority is lossless music libraries and audiophile listening, and switch to WAV when the file is headed for editing, mastering, DAWs and archiving. Need a different target? The full Audio Converter supports every format listed below.
