Save your WAV file

The assistant opens with your file and converts it on your own device; the file itself is never uploaded. When the WAV file is ready, click Save. Prefer to set everything by hand, or batch-convert several files into a ZIP? The classic converter is one click away on this page.

Why Convert AIFF to WAV?

AIFF and WAV are both uncompressed PCM; the main difference is byte order, since standard AIFF stores samples big-endian (a legacy of Motorola-era Macs) while WAV uses little-endian. Some Windows programs, broadcast playout systems and hardware players only accept WAV, so converting AIFF to WAV is the usual step when a Mac session leaves the Apple ecosystem.

The converter writes 16-bit WAV at the AIFF's sample rate. For 16-bit AIFF files such as CD rips and most sample libraries the result is sample-for-sample identical; 24-bit bounces from Logic Pro or GarageBand are reduced to 16-bit, which is fine for sharing and playback but not for further mixing.

  • Private by design: your AIFF file is converted on your own device and never uploaded.
  • WAV already asked for: the AI assistant's request says WAV, so one drop does it. Want a particular sample rate? Just say so.
  • Batch friendly: the classic converter on this page takes several AIFF files in one go and downloads them as a ZIP.
  • Free, no watermark: no sign-up, and nothing stamped on the output.

AIFF vs WAV

AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format): AIFF is Apple's uncompressed audio format, the macOS equivalent of WAV. It is used by Logic Pro, GarageBand and professional mastering houses. It is best for Logic Pro, GarageBand and Mac audio production.

WAV (Waveform Audio File Format): WAV stores uncompressed PCM audio exactly as it was recorded. It is the standard for audio editing, mastering and archiving, at the cost of large files (about 10 MB per minute of CD-quality stereo). It is best for editing, mastering, DAWs and archiving.

In short: keep AIFF when the priority is Logic Pro, GarageBand and Mac audio production, and switch to WAV when the file is headed for editing, mastering, DAWs and archiving. Need a different target? The full Audio Converter supports every format listed below.

AIFF to WAV FAQ

01

Should I use this for a 24-bit mix I still need to master?

No. Keep the 24-bit AIFF for mastering, or export WAV directly from your DAW; this converter's WAV output is 16-bit.

02

Are AIFF markers and loop points kept?

No. The converter carries the audio itself, but not AIFF markers, loop points or instrument chunks, so re-create those in your sampler or DAW.

03

Is this AIFF to WAV converter free?

Yes. Converting AIFF to WAV on MediaConverter.io is free, with no watermark and no sign-up. The AI assistant runs on a free daily allowance of assistant credits; the classic converter on this page has no daily limit at all.

04

Are my AIFF files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so your .aiff file is read and converted on your own device and never uploaded, which keeps private recordings private and means there is no waiting in an upload queue. The AI assistant only sees what you type and basic facts about the file: its name, format, duration and size.

05

Is there a file size limit for AIFF to WAV?

There is no plan or account limit, but the converter loads the whole AIFF file into your browser's memory, so about 2 GB per file is the practical ceiling; larger files may fail to open. Long or high-resolution files also take longer, especially on phones.

06

Can I choose the WAV settings myself?

Yes. Ask the AI assistant for a sample rate in your request. Audio track selection and every other setting are in the classic converter, one click away on this page.

07

Will converting AIFF to WAV reduce quality?

WAV is uncompressed, so no further compression loss is added to the audio decoded from your AIFF file. The converter writes 16-bit WAV, CD resolution, so a 24-bit source is reduced to 16-bit.

08

Which browsers support the AIFF to WAV converter?

It is built and tested on current desktop Chrome and Edge. The conversion itself runs in WebAssembly, which every current desktop browser supports, so speed depends mostly on your computer's processor.
