1
Drag and drop your .m4v file onto the page or click to browse. You can select several M4V files at once to batch-convert them.
2
The output format is already set to MP4, so you can convert immediately. If you need to, adjust the codec, resolution, frame rate or bitrate in the settings panel first.
3
Click Convert. The MP4 file is processed on your own device; nothing is uploaded to a server. When it finishes, click Download to save it (or Download all to get a batch as a ZIP).
M4V is Apple's MP4 variant used by iTunes and older iOS exports. Many Android phones, smart TVs and Windows apps reject the .m4v extension even though the contents are nearly identical to MP4. Converting M4V to MP4 fixes that with no visible quality change.
The converter re-encodes the H.264 video and AAC audio into a standard MP4 container, keeping the source settings by default. Note that DRM-protected iTunes purchases cannot be converted by any tool; only unprotected M4V files will open.
M4V (iTunes Video): M4V is Apple's flavour of the MP4 container, used by iTunes and older Apple devices. Unprotected M4V files are structurally almost identical to MP4. It is best for iTunes libraries and older Apple devices.
MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14): MP4 is the most widely supported video container in the world. It usually carries H.264 or H.265 video with AAC audio, plays on every phone, browser, TV and editing app, and is the safest choice for sharing. It is best for sharing, social media, web playback and mobile devices.
In short: keep M4V when the priority is iTunes libraries and older Apple devices, and switch to MP4 when the file is headed for sharing, social media, web playback and mobile devices. Need a different target? The full Video Converter supports every format listed below.
