Rescue the soundtrack of old Flash FLV videos as MP3 files that play anywhere. Drop a .flv file below and the output is already set to MP3.
Drop or choose your video files
The assistant opens with your files and does the rest.
Choose Files
1
Drag and drop your .flv file onto the box above, or click Choose Files. The request is already filled in: “Convert this to MP3”.
2
The AI assistant uses sensible defaults. To choose the bitrate, codec or sample rate yourself, say so in the request, for example “Convert this to MP3 at 320 kbps”.
3
The assistant opens with your file and converts it on your own device; the file itself is never uploaded. When the MP3 file is ready, click Save. Prefer to set everything by hand, or batch-convert several files into a ZIP? The classic converter is one click away on this page.
FLV files are what remains of the Flash era: saved web videos, early video-site downloads, webinar and screencast archives, and recordings from older streaming software. Browsers and phones no longer play them, but the audio, whether a talk, a song or an interview, is often the part worth keeping, and an MP3 is the simplest way to keep it.
Older FLVs usually carry MP3 audio and later H.264 ones AAC. Either way the converter decodes the track with FFmpeg running in your browser and encodes a fresh MP3, so the video codec inside the FLV (Sorenson Spark, VP6 or H.264) makes no difference to the result.
FLV (Flash Video): FLV (Flash Video) was the streaming format of the Flash era. Modern browsers no longer play it, so FLV files usually need converting before they can be watched or edited. It is best for legacy Flash-era archives.
MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer III): MP3 is the universal lossy audio format. It plays on every device made in the last twenty-five years and offers small files with good quality at 192 to 320 kbps. It is best for music players, podcasts, phones and sharing.
In short: keep FLV when the priority is legacy Flash-era archives, and switch to MP3 when the file is headed for music players, podcasts, phones and sharing. Need a different target? The full Video Converter supports every format listed below.
